Abstract
Introduction: The Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) program, developed by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), offers a standardized approach to the early management of trauma patients. This course equips healthcare professionals with essential skills to assess, resuscitate, stabilize, and determine the appropriate transfer of patients with traumatic injuries. Since its inception in 1980, ATLS has been adopted in over 80 countries, reflecting its global significance in trauma care. [1] This study aims to evaluate the importance of the ATLS course in the training and education of doctors and other healthcare professionals, assessing its impact on clinical outcomes and the proficiency of trauma management.[2]
Materials and Methods: A systematic review of existing literature was conducted, focusing on studies that analyzed the educational and clinical impacts of the ATLS program. Databases such as PubMed, Medline, and the Cochrane Library were searched for relevant articles published between 1980 and 2025. Keywords included "ATLS," "trauma education," "clinical outcomes," and "healthcare training." Studies were selected based on their relevance to the educational efficacy of ATLS and its influence on patient outcomes.[3]
Results: The review indicates that the ATLS course significantly enhances healthcare professionals' knowledge, skills, and confidence in managing trauma cases. Participants demonstrated improved performance in simulated trauma scenarios and real-life situations. Moreover, institutions that implemented ATLS training observed a reduction in mortality rates among trauma patients, highlighting the program's effectiveness. [4] Conclusions: Incorporating the ATLS course into the training and education of doctors and other healthcare professionals is crucial for improving trauma care. The program not only standardizes trauma management but also improves patient outcomes, underscoring its value in medical education.
